MEDFORD, MA (January 26, 2024) – In their first official competition since December 9, the eighth-ranked Tufts University women's swimming & diving team defeated #23 Bates College 198-84 tonight at Hamilton Pool.

The Jumbos won 12 of the 16 events to top their conference foe. Tufts will be right back in the pool tomorrow with a dual meet at fifth-ranked MIT starting at 1:00 pm.

Tufts started tonight's meet with a strong 1:43.63 time in the 200 medley relay to win. First-year Elena Harrison, sophomore Quinci Wheeler, senior Jillian Cudney and junior Emma Claus combined on the time.

In the 100 butterfly Tufts junior Valeria Strohmeier's 57.33 was the fastest time and her personal-best.  Senior Chesnie Cheung followed with a time of 24.99 seconds to win the 50 freestyle.

Wheeler came through with a win in the 100 freestyle at a 52.76 mark. She had also been second in the 200 freestyle behind Bates' Wenger in a good 1:52.59 time that was a personal best. Tufts sophomore Maddie Hagberg then swam 58.04 to win the 100 backstroke.

The Jumbos had their sixth straight event victory when first-year Aliyah Larson went 1:05.38 for the 100 breaststroke. Dunn then made it seven with her 4:59.94 winning time in the 500 free, and Cudney stretched it to eight with a 25.78 time to win the 50 butterfly.

Junior Nika Renshaw had the top scores in both diving events, which were held at Babson College. She accumulated a 227.85 in one-meter and then scored 237.84 off the three-meter board.
