CAMBRIDGE, MA (January 27, 2024) – The 13th-ranked Tufts University men's swimming & diving team edged #4-ranked MIT this afternoon by a 157-136 score.
It's the second win of the season for the Jumbos over their neighboring rivals. That includes their first-place finish at the MIT Invitational back in December when the host Engineers placed second.
Tufts got started today with a 1:29.81 time to win the 200 medley relay. The Jumbo foursome was junior
Eric Lundgren, junior
Emmett Adams, sophomore
Armaan Sikka and graduate student
Peter LaBarge.
The Jumbos would win the first four events overall. Freshman
Dan Godino timed 9:33.75 to place first in the 1000 meters. Sikka then won the 200 freestyle in 1:41.39, with senior
Eli Houlton a close second in 1:41.96. Lundgren swam 49.34 to win the 100 backstroke and the Jumbos were off to a great start.
MIT's first victory of the day came in the 100 breaststroke where Arnold Su touched in 56.11 seconds, with Adams right on his tail in 56.18 for second place.
Junior
Ethan Schreier added another Jumbo victory in the 200 butterfly with a 1:49.69 mark. Junior
Soeren Euvrard, who had an outstanding day, and LaBarge then went 1-2 in the 50 freestyle with times of 20.72 and 20.73 seconds. That pair would also score second- and third-place points for the 100 free, with Euvrard's 45.19 and LaBarge's 46.03 trailing MIT's Tobe Obachi (44.91).
The Tufts divers were sensational today. Freshman
Elias Brandt and sophomore
Jeremy Lawrence were the only two contestants in the 11-dive three-meter event, with Brandt getting first with a 571.35 score and Lawrence second at 556.88. In the 11-dive one-meter event, freshman
Jay Wilkinson (566.93), Lawrence (545.41) and Brandt (524.02) were top three with great scores.
Lundgren in the 200 backstroke with a 1:49.00 mark and senior
Bora Calis in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.19) were runner-ups. For MIT, Zack West in the 200 back (1:48.92) and Roderick Huang in the 200 breast (2:02.44) were the winners. Godino was Tufts' top finisher with a 4:40.82 in the 500 free, which was won narrowly by MIT's John Tietjen with a 4:40.61 time.
Sikka, Schreier and Euvrard added huge late points for Tufts in the 100 butterfly by finishing as the top three. Sikka won in 48.79, followed by Schreier's 49.47 and Euvrard's 49.70.
A fourth by Lundgren in the 200 individual medley (1:54.07) led Tufts, then the Jumbos placed second in the 200 freestyle relay to close the meet. LaBarge, junior

Oliver Grossman and Euvard combined to time 1:22.67. MIT's Jason Wang won the 200 IM (1:50.39) and the Engineers posted a 1:21.69 winning mark in the 200 free relay.
Tufts continues to prep for the championship season with a dual meet next Friday night at home against Hamilton College for their Senior Day.
