WORCESTER, MA (November 23, 2024) – The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team won nine of the 16 events at a quad meet hosted by WPI on Saturday with Williams College and Trinity College.
The meet was scored as separate dual meets with the Jumbos winning two out of three. They defeated host WPI 213-84 and won 226-64 over Trinity, but were defeated by the narrowest margin by Williams 149-148.
The Jumbos won both relays today, starting with the 200 medley relay to start the meet. The team of
Eric Lundgren,
Emmett Adams,
Armaan Sikka and
Soeren Euvrard timed 1:30.98, six-tenths of a second ahead of Williams.
Tufts later closed the meet with a 200 freestyle victory.
Campbell McFall, Sikka,
Will Kaminski and Euvrard combined on a 1:23.68 time, 1.34 faster than the Ephs. Tufts also had the third-place time of 1:25.41 submitted by
Alex Gu, Adams,
Eli Houlton and
Charlie Duffy.
Individually, Lundgren and Euvrard both won twice. In a backstroke sweep, Lundgren swam a fast 50.05 in the 100 and 1:50.65 to win the 200. Euvrard swept the freestyle sprints with a 20.88 in the 50 and a 46.33 in the 100.
Today marked the season debut of sophomore diver
Jay Wilkinson, whose strong 318.00 score won the one-meter event.
Adams added a 100 breaststroke victory with a 57.55, while
Connor Townson scored third in the event (59.47). Jumbos went 1-2-3 in the 200 breaststroke led by
Bora Calis (2:09.83) followed by Townson (2:11.15) and
Evan Wang (2:11.63).
Dan Godino was top three in the distance freestyles today, touching as the runner-up in the 1000 at 9:51.48 and swimming third in the 500 (4:49.62). Sikka and
Cameron Yuen contributed third-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (50.63) and three-meter diving (259.85), respectively. Lundgren also had a third in the 400 IM with a 4:10.36 mark.
The Jumbos saw some strong performances from freshmen today. Along with McFall in the winning 200 free relay,
Timmy Brady was second in both the 200 butterfly (1:57.53) and the 400 individual medley (4:10.24).
Ron Lyubman was Tufts' top finisher and second overall in the 200 freestyle with a 1:42.89 finish.
Tufts dives right back into the water tomorrow with a meet at Brandeis University beginning at 1 PM.
