CAMBRIDGE, MA (December 8, 2024) - The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team won the MIT Winter Invite for the third straight season on Sunday.
The Jumbos compiled a 1769 score through 20 events to top host MIT's 1538 score. RPI in third place accumulated an 880 score.
After breaking five school records on Saturday, the Jumbos added another on Sunday in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of
Eric Lundgren,
Emmett Adams,
Ethan Schreier and
Soeren Euvrard won the event with a 1:27.37 time that was a Tufts and MIT pool record. The previous Tufts standard was 1:27.58 from 2023. Tonight's time is also faster than the NCAA B cut of 1:29.60.
Tufts won four events overall tonight. Lundgren's 1:44.65 to win the 200 backstroke was a pool record and better than the 1:49.01 B cut. Schreier was first in the 100 butterfly with a 48.38 mark that was an NCAA B qualifier (48.63).
Jack Nussbaum also won in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:01.01 time that was below the NCAA B standard (2:01.06) as well.
The Jumbos were second in the final event of the night, swimming 2:59.63 in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of
Campbell McFall, Lundgren,
Jan Springer and Euvrard put together the time that was lower than the NCAA B qualifying mark (3:01.31). In diving,
Elias Brandt topped a 500 score with his 503.35 mark for second-place in the three-meter competition. He was well over the 440 NCAA qualifying mark.
The Jumbos scored second and third in the 500 freestyle finals tonight.
Ron Lyubman's 4:29.24 was the runner-up mark and a NCAA B time (4:31.24).
Dan Godino was third in the event with a 4:32.49 touch. The foursome of Adams, Schreier,
Will Kaminski and
Armaan Sikka scored third in the 400 free relay at 3:02.40. Euvrard added a third-place effort in 100 fly (48.82), as did
Connor Townson in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.39).
Springer was the top Jumbo with his fourth-place in the 100 freestyle at 45.53 seconds.
Timmy Brady was the lead Jumbo in fifth place overall for the 200 individual medley (1:54.67).
Tufts heads into its semester break now and will return to action on January 23 in a dual meet at Bates College.
