CAMBRIDGE, MA (December 8, 2024) - The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team finished off a strong weekend at the MIT Winter Invite on Sunday. The Jumbos placed second out of six teams at the meet.
In 20 total events over the three-day competition, Tufts compiled a 1602.5 score. They were second behind host MIT's 1944.50 score. The third-place team was RPI with a 760 score.
The Jumbo 200 medley relay had a good Sunday. After the foursome of
Elena Harrison, Quincy Wheeler,
Lara Wujciak and
Jillian Cudney won the morning session with a 1:42.92 time, the Jumbos then swam the #2 time in school history in the evening session. The line-up of Harrison, Wheeler,
Katharine Skelly and Cudney combined on a 1:41.93 time that was second in the final and a NCAA B cut (1:44.61). Harrison's 25.94 opening 50 backstroke leg was just off her PR (25.93) and the school record (25.87).
Tufts also finished the meet with a strong showing in the 400 freestyle relay. Wheeler,
Emma Claus,
Isa Chambers and Cudney timed 3:28.53 for second place in tonight's final and an NCAA B cut (3:29.09).
The Jumbos also had third-place scores in both relays. Their 1:44.88 in the 200 medley relay was earned by the team of
Noa Chambers,
Mia Solomon,
Jade Foltenyi and
Isa Chambers. In the 400 free relay, a 3:30.33 mark was timed by
Sydney Stasz, Harrison, Skelly and
Noa Chambers.
Madeleine Dunn won both the morning session and the evening final in the 500 freestyle. She swam 4:53.74 in the morning prelims for an NCAA B time (5:00.37). Then she improved to 4:52.76 in the final. It was just 0.07 off her own school record.
A pair of first-years scored second and third for the Jumbos in the 200 backstroke final tonight.
Noa Chambers was the runner-up in 2:00.79 which was within the NCAA B time of 2:03.17. It also placed her #2 all-time at Tufts in the event.
Olivia Pettit was third in the final (2:03.71).
Runner-up performances also came from Wheeler and Cudney in the 200 breaststroke and 100 freestyle, respectively. Wheeler's finals time was 2:21.95 and Cudney had a 51.74.
Stasz finished third in the 200 individual medley for the Jumbos, touching in a 2:07.48 time. Harrison had Tufts' top performance in the 100 butterfly. Her 55.93 in the morning was within the NCAA B mark (55.96). She then touched fourth in tonight's final with a time of 56.45 seconds.
The Jumbos had five divers in action today and they all hit the one-meter NCAA qualifying score of 395.
Luci Karp finished fourth (467.60),
Malia Leung was eighth (452.55),
Arya Gupta scored 10th (437.90),
Nika Renshaw came in 13th (431.30) and
Riley Metz took 14th (417.70).
Tufts is now off competitively until returning for a dual meet at Bates College on January 24.
