CAMBRIDGE, MA (February 10, 2024) -- First-year
Simisola Lawal and
Katya Henisz, along with seniors
Harper Meek and
Sarah Pillone, highlighted a solid afternoon of action at the 2024 Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT's Indoor Track and Field.
Lawal earned the victory in the 60 meter dash, earning her third win of the season in the short sprint with a time of 7.99 seconds. In the mile run, Henisz ran a new collegiate-best time of 5:18.34 for a New England meet qualifying time, taking second place overall. Pillone was also second overall in the 60 hurdles after running a 9.07 second time. Meek was back into the winner's circle for the second time this season, clearing 1.64 meters for the victory.
In other action, first-year
Sophia Carpenter posted a collegiate-best time of 5:24.20 for fourth place in the mile.
Geri Tabbachino was 21st in the 3000 meter run after crossing the finish line in 12:15.21, while first-year
Emma Gall was Tufts' top finisher in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.40 meters for fifth place. Junior
Nyla Thompson was right behind her in sixth place with a 3.40 meter finishing mark.
In the 600 meters, first-year
Kaya West raced to a regional-qualifying and collegiate-best time of 1:42.81 seconds.
In the long jump, newcomer
Nora Jean-Jacques tied her collegiate-best mark with a final mark of 5.05 meters to take fourth place overall. Junior
Camilla Samuel also took ninth place in the long jump with a distance of 4.65 meters. Junior Mawlynn Ugokwe was third in the triple jump after her mark of 10.88 meters.
In the weight throw, junior
Liz Graham was 15th overall after a mark of 12.49 meters and first-year
Ceci LaBarge took 17th with a distance of 12.18 meters.
Tufts will head to Springfield, MA next weekend to compete in the Springfield College Invitational Saturday, February 17 at 10 a.m.
