WATERVILLE, ME (February 25, 2024) - Junior Cierra McCartney and sophomores
Jade Foltenyi and
Maddie Hagberg of the Tufts University women's swimming team all improved season-best times while competing at the NESCAC Women's Invitational at Colby College on Sunday.
All three Jumbos improved their chances of qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Championships with today's results, which were all within the NCAA "B" cut qualifying times.
Foltenyi swam 55.03 in the 100 butterfly, well below the 56.06 NCAA B cut and improving upon her previous season-best of 56.19 from the NESCAC meet. The time is a top 10 NCAA DIII mark as of Sunday afternoon.
McCarty's 4:28.23 in the 400 individual medley today was better than the 4:29.67 NCAA B mark and lowered her previous season-best of 4:30.33 from the MIT Invitational. She's now ranked just outside of the top 20 nationally for the event.
For Hagberg, she touched in 2:01.88 for the 200 backstroke today, lowering her B mark from 2:02.37 that she swam at the MIT Invitational. Today's time is within the top 20 nationally.
Sophomore
Mia Solomon and first-year
Sydney Stasz also swam in the 100 breaststroke today, with their times of 1:04.12 and 1:05.31, respectively, just missing on improving their previous season-bests. The same for sophomore
Avery Newcomer, who had a 2:20.48 that did not lower her previous season-best mark.
