BOSTON, MA (February 9, 2024) – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team began competition at the Boston Winter Open with a small group in action on Friday night at Boston University.
The Jumbos consider the meet as the start of the championship season, with some of the team members who will not take part in the NESCAC meet seeing their final action of the year.
Tufts saw a good performance in the 500 freestyle tonight by first-year
Natalie Lesh, who swam fifth in a 5:09.85 time. The race included swimmers from Division I teams Northeastern, Cornell and Colgate among others.
In the 50 freestyle, first-year
Aliyah Larson timed 24.17 seconds for eighth place. She led five Jumbos in the race, including senior
Chesnie Cheung who had a 24.59 finish, sophomore
Katharine Skelly (24.74), first-year
Alexia Palko-Lacerda (24.93) and senior Marisa Chow (31.27).
Tonight's action also included several time trials, with Larson swimming a 29.09 in the mixed 50 breaststroke which was almost a school record. Skelly (2:11.95 in the 200 individual medley) and Palko-Lacerda (27.17 in the 50 freestyle) also swam time trials.
In diving on Friday, the three-meter competition had Tufts first-year
Arya Gupta in fourth place with a 235.75 score and senior
Emma Fishbein eighth with a 185.85 total.
The majority of the meet will be held tomorrow with sessions at noon and 6 pm.
