WATERVILLE, ME (March 1, 2024) - Tufts University sophomore
Malia Leung placed third out of 31 individuals in the one-meter event at the NCAA Diving Regional hosted by Colby College on Friday.
Leung's score of 424.35 for 11 dives was behind only regional champion Sydney Bluestein from Amherst College (454.55) and runner-up Fiora Beratahani of MIT (440.50).
With eight berths into the upcoming NCAA Division III National Championship meet allocated for divers at the Colby Regional, Leung's third-place one-meter finish today earns her an NCAA national berth. She will join the 13 Jumbo swimmers who were announced as NCAA qualifiers earlier this week at the 2024 NCAA meet in Greensboro, North Carolina March 20-23.
Tomorrow's NCAA Diving Regional results in the three-meter competition will factor into the eight overall berths as well, which will be announced officially on Monday (Mar. 4).
Leung's highest-scoring dive today was an Inward 1 1/2 Somersault Pike for which she earned a 48.00 score on her sixth dive. A Back 1 Somersault 2 1/2 Twist Free that she did for her final dive scored a 44.55.
Tufts first-year
Arya Gupta was also in action today and finished in 25th place with a 346.05 score.
The women's three-meter event on Saturday will begin at approximately 3:00 PM, following the men's one-meter competition which starts at noon.
