MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 14, 2024) -- The 2024 Tufts University women's track and field squad started its outdoor season on Thursday afternoon, as the heptathlon competed in the first of two days of action at the 2024 Alan Connie Shamrock Inivitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The Jumbos had three competitors entered in the heptathlon on Thursday afternoon, as
Maddy Silveira was 11th after the first four events with 2308 points. Silveira was ninth in the 100m hurdles as she ran a time of 16.37 seconds for 670 points.
In the second event of the day, Silveira cleared 1.41 meters in the high jump to take 15th place for 523 points. In the shot put, Silveira posted a heave of 8.99 meters for 10th place to move up a spot. In the final event of the first day, the senior finished ninth with a time of 27.75 seconds in the 200 meter dash for 651 points.
Sydney Spivy was two spots behind Silveira in the standings as she finished with 2114 points through four events. Spivy finished the hurdles with a 18.02 for 486 points, and then was 15th in the high jump with a 1.41 meter leap for 523 points. She was third in the shot put with a 10.55 meter toss to move up two positions, and then ran a 29.21 for 539 points in the 200 meters.
First-year
Tessa Player tallied 1882 points for the day, as she ran a 17.64 in the 100m hurdles for 526 points. Player cleared 1.29 meters in the high jump, and then tossed the shot put 8.36 meters for 14th place. In the 200 meters, Player raced to a time of 29.28 for 534 more points.
The final three days will be contested on Friday, while the first day of full action at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational will also be on Friday as well starting at 10:30 a.m. on Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
