Tufts Men 9th at NCAA Swimming & Diving Meet Through Friday

GREENSBORO, NC (March 22, 2024) – Tufts University junior Emmett Adams broke a school record and had a top-eight All-American finish to highlight Day 3 at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships for the Jumbos on Friday.

With a time of 54.14 seconds in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries this morning, Adams broke his own school record in the event while finishing eighth. His previous record had been 54.62 from the conference championship meet this year. In tonight's NCAA championship final, Adams timed 54.75 seconds for eighth place. It's the first All-American recognition in an individual event for him.

The Jumbo men's 800 freestyle relay competed in the second heat tonight and the team of freshman Rafae Shafi, junior Eric Lundgren, Adams and sophomore Armaan Sikka touched in 6:40.70. That was 14th overall in a timed final, and honorable mention All-American accolades for each.

Lundgren reached double-digits (11) for career All-American honors today with the 800 free relay and his 48.70 time for 15th place in the 100 backstroke consolation final. He made the finals with a 48.44 preliminary mark.

The men's diving competition finished today with the one-meter event. Neither of the two qualifying Jumbos advanced out of the preliminary round. Freshman Jay Wilkinson earned 19th place with a 408.15 score in the prelims. Junior Cameron Yuen was awarded a 384.00 score for 23rd place.

Junior Ethan Schreier swam 1:51.12 for 26th place in the preliminaries of the 200 butterfly on Friday morning. Freshman Jack Nussbaum was also in the 100 breaststroke prelims today and had a 57.33 for 37th place.

Tufts is in ninth place in team scoring at the NCAA Championships with a 111.5 team points total for three days.

Along with Lundgren's career total, the All-American awards earned today were the eighth for Sikka, seventh for Adams and second for Shafi all-time. Adams, Lundgren and Sikka all have four this week.

On the final day of the championship meet tomorrow, the Jumbos will be in the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 1650 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay.
