Firth 11th in Pole Vault at NCAA Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (March 8, 2024) – Competing at the NCAA Track & Field Championships for the fifth consecutive season today, Tufts University junior Sarah Firth finished 11th in the pole vault competition.

Firth, who has qualified for all five indoor and outdoor national championships since her freshman season, had a best of 3.77m today to finish 11th out of 19 national competitors.

This is tied for her second-best NCAA finish with her 11th indoors in 2022 (3.70). Her career-best is eighth for All-American honors outdoors in 2022 (3.80m).

Today Firth cleared the opening height of 3.47m on her first attempt. She missed her first crack at 3.62m, but was good on her second. She then made a clutch third attempt at 3.77m to stay alive in the field. She dropped out with three misses at 3.82m.

She placed second among New England competitors at the national meet. The NCAA championship was won by the University of Rochester's Madeline O'Connell with a 3.92 mark.

Firth was the lone NCAA qualifier for the Jumbos indoors, with today's event ending the team's stay at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

The team's outdoor season will begin on March 16 in South Carolina on the team's annual spring break trip.
