WORCESTER, MA (May 10, 2024) -- The Tufts University women's track and field squad posted 11.5 points in the opening day of action at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Championships, as the Jumbos finished the opening day of action at the College of Holy Cross in sixth place. Tufts was the top Division III school in the scoring after the opening day of action, as the field was littered with Division I and Division II schools.
The Jumbos competed in four events on Friday evening, as
Sarah Pillone ran a personal-best time of 14.64 seconds in the 100 meter hurdle preliminaries to finish 11th overall.
Antonia Knoth ran a 15.60 seconds in the 100 hurdles as well, qualifying 27th just off her personal best.
In the 400 meter hurdles,
Emma Smith qualified for Saturday's finals with a time 1:04.66 to take third in prelims, while Knoth was ninth with a 1:05.27.
Emily Sverak also posted the 19th fastest time in prelims in the 400 hurdles, clocking a 1:08.69.
In the 10000 meters, sophomore
Eliana Montgomery ran a 39:25.08 to just miss the scoring with a 39:25.08.
The Jumbos scored their 11.5 points in the pole vault, as first-year
Emma Gall had a strong evening as she was the silver medalist with a huge personal-best height of 3.62 meters. The height is the 33rd-best cleared mark in Division III this season. Junior
Sarah Firth tied for fourth with a cleared height of 3.62 meters as well, but was fourth due to accumulated failed attempts.
The Jumbos will continue action Saturday at the NEICAAA Championships Saturday with action starting at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross.
