WILLIAMSTOWN, MA (September 21, 2024) - The Tufts University golf team finished day 1 of the Williams Fall Invitational in a strong second place, with a combined score of 16 strokes over par, or 229 strokes total.
Leading the way for the Jumbos was senior
Eric Lancellotti, who hit for three strokes over par, or a 74 on the par 71 course. His score was strong enough to tie for ninth place, which puts Lancellotti just two strokes behind the leader, Middlebury's Bradshaw Underhill. Lancellotti's strong first day was a slow burn, seeing him hit mostly for par until a birdie on hole 14, which secured his position as top-scoring Jumbo.
Sitting dead-even with Lancellotti was sophomore
Brendan Roy. Roy was off to a slow start with a double bogey on hole four, but he quickly rebounded with birdies on holes seven and 10 to tie him with his senior teammate. A bogey on hole 17 was the only blemish on an otherwise clean back nine.
Sophomore
JP Noone followed closely behind Lancellotti and Roy, finishing with a 76, just five strokes over par, and four behind the individual leader. Noone's front nine was nearly even as can be, with just a single bogey on hole three. A birdie on hole 10 seemed to set the tone for the back nine, but a few bogies on the back stretch held him as the Jumbos' second-highest scorer.
Junior
Holden Kittelberger had one of the strongest front nines of the day, finishing the first half of the course with two birdies. An eagle on hole 10 was the best single-hole result for the Jumbos, but the achievement could not be replicated again over the back nine. Kittelberger would finish with a 79, tying for 49th overall and putting him seven strokes behind the individual leader.
Rounding out the day for the Jumbos was sophomore
Nick McCabe. McCabe finished with an 82, tying him in 75th place.
The Jumbos will continue the action with another round tomorrow, September 22, teeing off at 9:00 AM and looking to secure or improve their second place standing.
