BRUNSWICK, ME (September 28, 2024) - The Tufts University men's golf team showed out at round one of the Bowdoin College Invitational in Brunswick, Maine, leading all teams with a combined score of 289 or one stroke over par.
Nick McCabe led the way for the Jumbos on day one, shooting two under par for a score of 70. The sophomore hit the ground running, with birdies on holes two and three. McCabe got better as the day went on, posting three more birdies on the back nine. His efforts landed him firmly tied for first place with Husson's Chris Kauppila, a stroke ahead of next-best Tyler Baker of Endicott.
Not far behind McCabe was fellow sophomore
JP Noone. Noone replicated McCabe's hot start by also hitting birdies on holes two and three, providing a solid base for a strong front nine that saw him birdie two additional holes. Three bogies on the back nine would see Noone go even with a 70 on day one, good for fourth place individually.
Trailing Noone by just a stroke was senior
Eric Lancellotti. Lancellotti a bogey on hole four was the only blemish on an otherwise spotless front half, and two birdies on the back half saw him land in 10th with a 74, one over par.
Rounding out the first day in Maine for the Jumbos was graduate student
Conor O'Holleran, who also hit a birdie on hole two, making it three Tufts golfers to go one under on that hole. O'Holleran's day was highlighted by birdies on holes 16 and 17 as well.
The Jumbos as a team sit three strokes ahead of next-best Husson, and have a comfortable 11 strokes over third place and NESCAC rival Amherst College.
Tufts is back in action bright and early in Brunswick tomorrow morning, hitting the links at 9:00 AM to continue round two of the Bowdoin College Invitational.
