BRUNSWICK, ME (September 29, 2024) - The Tufts University men's golf team finished strong at the Bowdoin College Invitational to secure first place as a team on Sunday in Brunswick, Maine. Sophomore
Nick McCabe earned first place individually, earning the second tournament win of his career.
McCabe led the way for the Jumbos the whole second day of play in Maine, once again starting strong with birdies on holes two and three. A bogey on hole four did nothing to deter the sophomore, who rebounded with a birdie on hole seven. McCabe was rock solid on the back nine as well, with a bogey on hole 10 being his only over across the second half. McCabe would finish with a combined score of 141, good for a -3 and first place individually. He finished two strokes ahead of second place Jan Ebbinge, surviving a late push from the Amherst golfer. The tournament win was Tufts first individual win since McCabe himself won the Skidmore College Invitational in October of last year.Â
Finishing sixth overall and six strokes behind McCabe was sophomore
JP Noone. Noone's day two was highlighted by birdies on holes five and 17, with a few bogies on the front nine holding him behind the lead-scorer McCabe. Noone would finish with a 147, three strokes over par.
Brenden Roy finished 11th overall with a score of 148, good for four over par. He also had a strong day two, with a pair of birdies on holes three and 12, limiting his bogey count to only four for a strong finish for the sophomore.
Senior
Eric Lancellotti rounded out the scorers on day two, with a 151. His +7 finish was good for 22nd place overall individually, and a birdie on hole six helped lift the Jumbos to their first team win of the season.Â
Graduate Student
Conor O'Holleran also golfed for the Jumbos, scoring a 163 on the weekend and placing 85th individually.
The Jumbos would finish with a combined score of 299, 11 strokes over par. It was the highest finish for Tufts since they won the NESCAC Championship Tournament in April 2024. It was their highest regular season tournament finish since the Western New England Invitational in April of 2022, where the Jumbos finished first of eight teams. The Jumbos would finish four strokes in front of next-best Amherst College, weathering a late push from the Mammoths on the back nine day two.
The Jumbos will look to replicate this weekend's success in two weeks at the Skidmore College Invitational at Saratoga Spa State Park on October 12, 2024. Tee off is at 1:00 PM Saturday.
