BRUNSWICK, ME (October 11, 2025) -- The Tufts University women's tennis team had a strong second day of action at the 2025 Polar Bear Invitational at Bowdoin College, knocking off Bowdoin in singles 7-3 while topping Brandeis University 2-1 in doubles. The Jumbos also split four doubles' matches against Babson College.
In singles in the morning, Tufts started play with a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) win by
Lucy Mitchell over Zoe Sun at the No. 1 spot, while first-year
Claudia Grove topped Marie Frati 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 5 position. At No. 6, first-year
Kyra McCandless was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Lila Moldenhauer, and junior
Natalie Hu bested Naomi Williams 7-5, 7-5 at No. 7.
The strong play at the bottom of the lineup continud with an 8-6 win by senior
Stephanie Woodbury, and fellow senior
Nikki Kintiroglou was an 8-43 win over Phoebe Thorne. Sophomore
Ryan Wuhrman was also a 6-1, 6-0 winner at the No. 9 spot.
In doubles,
Melanie Woodbury and Grove were 6-0 winners at the No. 2 spot against Brandeis, while
Athena Li and
Ellie Gershaw topped Galia Harmelin and Charly Saltz 6-4 at the bottom position.
Against Babson, Woodbury and Grove posted another win with a 7-6 (3) triumph while Gershaw and Wuhrman knocked off their opponents at No. 4 7-6 (3).
Action is slated to continue Sunday at 10 a.m., but weather coming into the area may cut the weekend short.
