Golf Sits in Second After Round One of Hamilton Invitational

ROME, NY (October 4, 2025) - The Tufts University men's golf team took second place after a strong performance in round one at the Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday in Rome, New York.

The Jumbos were led by first year golfer Jason Zawtocki as he finished as a qualifying scorer for the first time this fall. The rookie finished the day at four strokes above par. After a double bogey on hole one, he rattled off three birdies on holes two, eleven and sixteen to help him finish in sixth place individually. Zawtocki took home the best finish for Tufts in round one.

Junior Brendan Roy was just a stroke behind Zawtocki at five over par. His day was highlighted by a lone birdie on hole eight seeing him finish tied for ninth with his junior teammate, JP Noone. Noone also finished five above par, but had a bit more of an up and down day. He finished with birdies on holes one, four and ten to help balance out six bogies. 

Senior Holden Kittelberger and junior Nick McCabe also finished with the same score after round one. The former finished with a birdie on hole 11 but was held up by seven bogies. McCabe had birdies on holes 11 and 16, but three double bogies also held him up. The pair both finished at six strokes over par to tie in 14th place. 

The best performer on the day to wear blue and brown was sophomore Brooks Cahill-Sanidas. Competing independently he finished in first place individually. His front nine was stellar, with two birdies on holes seven and nine cancelling a bogey on hole three. Carrying the -1 into the back stretch, the sophomore held it mostly clean to finish one stroke over par. 

Tufts sits seven strokes behind the event leaders Hamilton and five strokes ahead of NESCAC rivals Middlebury. They will look to usurp the leaders as they compete from second place in round two tomorrow at 9:00 am.
