CAMBRIDGE, MA (December 6, 2025) – Tufts University won the 200 freestyle relay to highlight the Jumbo men's swimming & diving team's second day at the MIT Winter Invitational on Saturday.
Through two days at the event, the Jumbos are in second place out of seven teams with a 772 team score. Host MIT leads the meet at 951 points while Hamilton College is third (457.5).
The 200 free relay of
Isaac Shang,
Campbell McFall,
Max Gerke and
Will Kaminski were first in the morning preliminaries where their 1:21.22 time was an NCAA B cut. Gerke and Kaminski switched spots for the final and Tufts' 1:20.63 won the race and improved their B mark. Kaminski timed 19.77 in the third leg.
Rafae Shafi's 1:38.68 in the 200 freestyle this morning was a B mark, and then he lowered the time to 1:38.51 while finishing second in the final. Also in the morning he swam to a 1:49.09 personal-best in a 200 butterfly time trial that was also a NCAA B mark.
Kaminski continued his superb day in the 50 freestyle, where he set a personal-best of 20.38 in the prelims and was then second in the final at 20.39 seconds. Both were just shy of the 20.36 B mark.
Freshman
Nico Ogawa was third in the 100 backstroke tonight with a time of 49.87 seconds, while Shang swam third behind Kaminski in the 50 free (20.68).
Jack Nussbaum posted a strong 55.82 prelim mark in the 100 breaststroke before taking fourth in the final (56.22).
The Jumbo foursome of Ogawa, Nussbaum, Gerke and Shang were fourth in the 400 medley relay with a 3:20.70 time in the last event. Also in the 200 free relay won by the Jumbos, Tufts had

Jan Springer,
Spencer Thompson and Ogawa in fourth place (1:23.13).
Diving started tonight with the men's three-meter event featuring Jumbos
Elias Brandt and
Jay Wilkinson. They finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth with scores of 437.50 and 423.60, respectively.
For the 400 individual medley, freshman
Seth Graber had the best Tufts time in the preliminaries of 4:01.42 (personal-best).
Connor Townson scored highest for the Jumbos, taking fifth in the final at 4:02.32 (4:01.68 prelim). Freshman
Adam Li was the top Jumbo in the 200 butterfly with a 1:52.43 finish (1:52.00 prelim).
The third and final day of the MIT Winter Invitational will begin with preliminaries at 10:00 AM. The finals will have a 6:00 PM start time.
