CAMBRIDGE, MA (December 5, 2025) –
Rafae Shafi swam an NCAA B cut in the 1650 freestyle to highlight the Tufts University men's swimming & diving team's efforts on the first night of the MIT Winter Invitational Friday.
Shafi was well below the B qualifying mark of 15:50.8 with his time of 15:39.56 that was second in the race tonight. Teammate
Dan Godino was in third place behind Shafi with a 15:58.41 mark.
Tufts also posted the third- and fourth-place finishes in the 800 freestyle relay tonight. The foursome of
Nico Ogawa,
Spencer Thompson,
Sam Harris and
Jan Springer combined on a 6:49.03 mark that took third.
Adam Li,
Harry Belbot,
Max Gerke and
Ron Lyubman posted the fourth-fastest mark in the event at 6:52.09.
In these events, Tufts compiled 147 team points overall and leads the five-team meet. Host MIT (127) is second and RPI is currently in third place with a 107 score.
In time trials tonight,
Evan Wang's 51.59 in the 100 individual medley,
Campbell McFall's 23.80 in the 50 backstroke,
Will Kaminski's 25.49 and Thompson's 26.22 in the 50 breaststroke and a 22.17 by
Isaac Shang and a 22.35 from Gerke in the 50 butterfly were all solid marks for the Jumbos.
Saturday features preliminaries starting at 10:00 AM and finals beginning at 6:00 PM on day two of the MIT Winter Invite.
