Women's Swimming and Diving

Wins By Dunn and Hagberg Highlight Sunday as Women's Team is Second at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MA (December 7, 2025) – Madeleine Dunn and Madison Hagberg won events on Sunday as the Tufts University women's swimming & diving team finished up at the MIT Winter Invitational.

Dunn's 4:53.66 mark was first in the 500 freestyle early in the meet and lowered the NCAA B mark she had set in the morning preliminaries (4:54.20). Hagberg did the same, winning the 200 backstroke with a 2:01.65 NCAA B mark in the final that was quicker than the 2:02.83 B mark she had achieved in the prelims.

These victories helped the Jumbos place second out of nine teams at the meet. Tufts' 1392 score was behind only host MIT, who won with a 1666.5 total. Hamilton College finished in third place (729.5).

Tufts started well on Sunday in the 200 medley relay. Elena Harrison, Quinci Wheeler, Angel Smyrniou and Katharine Skelly combined on a 1:43.68 NCAA B cut in the morning preliminaries. They were then second in final at night with a 1:42.92 to lower their B qualifying mark.

In the 400 freestyle relay to end the night session and the meet overall, Tufts' 3:25.90 was also second and an NCAA B cut. Isa Chambers, Wheeler, Sweeney Su and Skelly were the Jumbo foursome.

Two individual runner-up efforts were earned by Jumbos tonight. Sydney Stasz in the 200 individual medley was second with her 2:06.12 finish. Smyrniou finished the 100 butterfly in 56.42 seconds for second place.

The Jumbos had several valuable third-place scores on Sunday. Behind Dunn's victory in the 500 free, Chloe Nader swam a personal-best of 5:01.33 for third place. Olivia Pettit supported Hagberg in the 200 backstroke with a 2:05.61 time that was third. Alec Lazorisak later added a personal-best with her 51.98 touch in the 100 freestyle that lifted her into third place.

Sunday fourths for the Jumbos were scored by Noa Chambers in the 200 back (2:05.64), Su in the 100 free (52.17) and Sophia Knight in the 200 IM (2:08.30 personal-best). Wheeler led the Jumbos in fifth overall for the 200 breaststroke (2:23.05).

Malia Leung surpassed the three-meter diving NCAA qualifying mark (410) with her 425.05 score today. She was sixth in the competition.

The Jumbos finished their fall semester of action today. Tufts will return to the pool on January 17 at home against Bates College.
