MIDDLEBURY, VT (February 23, 2025) - Senior
Eric Lundgren of the Tufts University men's swimming & diving team capped a tremendous four days at the 2025 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships today by winning the 200 backstroke for the fourth time in his career.
Lundgren not only completed the four-year sweep (2022-25) of the event, but he did so with a time of 1:44.10 that was a new school, pool and conference championship meet record. He broke his own school and meet record of 1:44.46 from this event in 2023.
Tonight's victory also gave Lundgren a sweep of the backstroke events at this year's Championship. He had won the 50 on Friday and the 100 on Saturday. He also led off the Jumbo first-place 400 medley relay on Friday and the winning 200 medley relay on Saturday. Additionally, he was the anchor leg of the second-place 800 freestyle relay on Thursday and for the runner-up 400 freestyle relay tonight.
Tufts finished second as a team at the Championship meet with a 1438.5 score. Williams College won the conference title with a 1801.5 score. Amherst College was the third-place team (1252).
Lundgren's win tonight was followed by a strong performance from Tufts in the 100 freestyle. Senior
Soeren Euvrard took third place in a 44.93 time, while junior
Armaan Sikka was right behind him in fourth place at 45.11 seconds. The Jumbos had four in the top 20 overall with sophomore
Jan Springer tied for 13th (46.19) and graduate student
Eli Houlton 20th (46.22).
Six Jumbos then scored in the 200 breaststroke, led by sophomore
Jack Nussbaum who won the consolation final (ninth overall) in a 2:01.85 mark. Junior
Connor Townson and graduate student
Bora Calis were also in the consolation final and placed 15th (2:06.10) and 16th (2:06.12), respectively. Tufts had three in the pre-consolation race as well, with senior
Charlie Duffy scoring 18th overall in 2:04.46, senior
Emmett Adams taking 20th in 2:05.21 and senior
Darrien Johnsen in 24th place at 2:09.64.
The 1650 freestyle today saw freshman
Ron Lyubman and sophomore
Dan Godino swim and score well for the Jumbos. Both hit NCAA B marks with Lyubman taking fifth in 15:43.12 and Godino touching in 15:43.27 for sixth place.
Senior
Ethan Schreier was a finalist in the 200 butterfly on Sunday and finished seventh overall in 1:51.07. Also scoring out of the consolation final in the event for the Jumbos were junior
Nate Pfeffer in 13th (1:52.15) and freshman
Timmy Brady in 16th (1:53.75).
Freshman
Sam Harris and senior
Brian Uribe had joined Lundgren in the 100 back. Harris' 1:51.69 was 12th overall. Uribe won the pre-consolation final in a 1:51.84 mark.
In the final event of the 2025 NESCAC Championship tonight, the 400 freestyle relay group of Sikka, Euvrard, Adams and Lundgren swam second in a 2:58.12 time. Tufts' B relay won their race (12th overall) in a 3:02.54 time, put together by Springer, freshman

Along with Lyubman and Godino in the 1650 freestyle today, Lundgren in the 200 back, Schreier in the 200 fly, Euvrard in the 100 free, the 400 free relay A and Sikka in the 100 free to open the relay all hit NCAA B marks.
Selections for the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships will be released on Wednesday (Feb. 26). The national championship meet is set for March 19-22 at Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
