BOSTON (February 7, 2025) - Thirteen Tufts University men's swimmers competed on the first night of the Boston Winter Open at Boston University Friday. The meet is the unofficial start to the Jumbos' championship season.
Freshman
Ryan Manson led four Jumbos in the 500 freestyle which started the meet. His 4:41.93 time was a person-best in the event and 11th overall. Freshman
Cole Aguirre was 16th (4:44.73), junior
Louie Demetriades placed 18th (4:46.14) and graduate student
Eli Houlton swam 4:47.12 for 19th place.
In the 200 individual medley, Tufts had sophomore
Evan Wang in eighth place overall with a 1:54.13 mark. Freshman Nicolas Tudoros swam 1:58.75 for 16th place.
Senior
Alex Gu led a six-man Jumbo contingent in the 50 freestyle tonight with his 21.39 time for 14th place. Houlton was 15th overall at 21.47 seconds. Sophomore
Joshua Harrison and freshman
Sam Harris both had personal-bests in the event with a 21.53 (18th) and 21.60 (19th), respectively. Freshman
Alp Hosgor (23.03) and sophomore
Arbert Xu (26.75) were also in the event.
Harrison improved his personal best with a 21.30 in a 50 freestyle time trial later on Friday. Houlton swam 23.34. Junior
Jack Moore did a time trial in the 100 breaststroke and touched in 59.71 seconds. Xu's 200 breaststroke time trial was 2:07.16 and Hosgar finished a 54.14 time trial in the 100 butterfly.
Boston College, Brown University, Colgate University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, College of the Holy Cross and MIT joined Tufts and BU at the meet.
There are two sessions in the non-scoring meet on Saturday starting at 12 noon and 6 PM.
