BOSTON (February 7, 2025) - The Tufts Univerity women's swimming & diving team began action at the Boston Winter Open hosted by Boston University on Friday night. The meet is the unofficial start to the Jumbos' championship season.
First-year
Angelina Sagaow had the top Tufts performance Friday night. Her personal-best time of 2:06.26 in the 200 individual medley won the event which included 18 competitors. First-year
Clara Behling was fourth in the race (2:08.07) and first-year
Sophia Knight timed a personal-best 2:08.46 to touch sixth in the 200 IM.
In the 500 freestyle, first-year
Alli Brown was the top Tufts finisher with a 5:05.99 personal-best for fifth place. Classmate
Lila Strober was ninth in the event at a 5:11.00 time. The 50 freestyle tonight featured Tufts first-year
Sweeney Su as the fastest Jumbo (24.47), followed by Behling (24.61) and sophomore
Alexia Palko-Lacerda (24.87). Palko-Lacerda's mark was a personal-best, which she also hit in a 50 butterfly time trial (27.78).
Tufts had four divers in one-meter action tonight, and they finished in order sixth through ninth place. First-year Lucy Karp scored sixth (163.80), sophomore
Arya Gupta was seventh (150.25), senior
Nika Renshaw came in eighth (148.25) and first-year
Riley Metz was ninth (148.00).
In other Friday night time trials, Knight swam 1:55.61 in the 200 freestyle, first-year
Alya Hocaoglu timed 1:01.30 in the 100 butterfly and in the 200 butterfly Strober touched in 2:07.89 and senior Valeria Srohmeier recorded a 2:11.01 mark.
Along with Tufts and BU, Boston College, Brown University, Colgate University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, College of the Holy Cross, MIT and Northeastern University are competing at the Boston Winter Open. Two Saturday sessions will be held starting at 12 noon and 6 PM.
