BOSTON (February 8, 2025) – The Jumbo men's swimming & diving team competed in two sessions at the Boston Winter Open on Saturday. The meet was the unofficial start to the championship season for the Jumbos.
Tufts had five in the 100 butterfly event which led off the afternoon session.
Alp Hosgor was the fastest Jumbo in 50.89 seconds for 11th place.
Nicolas Tudoras finished 13th (51.38),
Jack Moore was 16th (52.31),
Cole Aguirre's 52.84 was 17th and
Alex Gu recorded a personal best 53.02 that was 18th in the event.
Sam Harris' 1:40.85 personal-best in the 200 freestyle led four Jumbos.
Eli Houlton and
Ryan Manson were 10th and 11th in 1:42.77 and 1:43.18, respectively.
Joshua Harrison swam 1:45.55 for 16th place.
In the 100 breaststroke, Jumbo
Evan Wang touched eighth in 57.31 seconds.
Arbert Xu had the 14th-ranked time of 58.71 seconds.
Harris added another personal best in the 100 backstroke, a 52.13 time that was eighth in the event.
Tufts had two foursomes in the 200 medley relay in the afternoon. Tudoras, Wang, Gu and Harrison combined on a 1:34.43 mark that was fifth overall. Hosgar, Xu, Moore and Houlton recorded a 1:34.90 that finished sixth. Hosgar's 25.32 in the 50 back to lead-off the group was a personal best.
Louie Demetriades' sixth-place time of 16:32.47 in the 1650 freestyle wrapped up the afternoon session for Tufts.
The Jumbo foursome of Moore, Harrison, Houlton and Gu started the evening session with a fourth-place mark of 1:24.98 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Harris continued his good day with a personal best of 1:52.13 for seventh place in the 200 backstroke. He was followed in ninth by Demetriades' 1:59.98 finish.
The 100 freestyle saw Houlton seventh (46.08), Gu 16th (47.45), Manson 18th (47.69), Harrison 19th (47.74 personal-best) and Moore 28th (48.83).
Wang had one of the better Tufts finishes of the day with his fourth in the 200 breaststroke in a personal best mark of 2:03.21. Xu swam 2:09.65 for 13th place in the event.
For the 200 butterfly, Aguirre led Tufts in 10th overall (1:53.76) and Hosgor was 14th (1:57.46).
In the time trials at the end of the day, personal bests were set by Hosgor in the 50 butterfly (23.42) and Tudoras also in the 50 fly (23.60).
Boston College, Brown University, Colgate University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, College of the Holy Cross and MIT joined Tufts and BU at the meet, which was not scored.
