Gyimesi Named As Jostens Trophy Finalist

SALEM, VA (March 14, 2025) -- Junior forward Scott Gyimesi from the Tufts University men's basketball team was named Friday as one of 10 finalists nationally for the 2025 Jostens Trophy, the second-ever finalist for the award from Tufts.

The Jostens Trophy - one for men's basketball and one for women's basketball - is a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem (Va.) and sponsored by Jostens, Inc., to recognize the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball Players of the Year. The awards focus on three major criteria - basketball ability, academic prowess, and service to one's surrounding communities. The Jostens Trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete.

The 2025 season marks the 27th time the Jostens Trophy honors will be awarded. The 20 finalists will now be reviewed by the Jostens Trophy National Selection Committee. The 30-person committee is composed of men and women from across the country. The committee features current and former athletic administrators and head coaches, past Jostens Trophy recipients, and select members of the Division III media.

Gyimesi becomes the second-ever Jumbo men's player and third overall Tufts' player to earn Finalist honors, joining Luke Rogers in 2022 and Erica DeCandido in 2020. Gyimesi picked up All-NESCAC First Team accolades for the second straight season, as he was an all-around impact player for the Jumbos. He led the team in field goal percentage and rebounding, as the junior tallied 15.5 points per game, fifth in the conference, while his 9.9 rebounds per game was second in the NESCAC. His defensive rebounding numbers also topped the league's ledger with 7.4 per game.

Gyimesi also sat at the top spot in the league in field goal percentage with a 58.5 percent clip, ranking fifth in the NESCAC in assists per game with 3.1 as well. Gyimesi posted 13 double-doubles throughout the season. A standout in the classroom, he has posted a 3.90 GPA in economics while earning Dean's List all five semesters at Tufts. He has interned at Fellowship of Christian Athletes, also is part of the Tufts Investment Club and Tufts Consulting Collective. Gyimesi is also a finance and history minor.

The Fair Haven, NJ native is one of two NESCAC players to be honored, as Hamilton College's Hank Morgan also was selected as a finalist.
