GREENSBORO, NC (March 19, 2025) – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team is eighth in the team standings following a good opening day at the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship meet on Wednesday.
Junior
Madeleine Dunn led the Jumbos with a sixth-place finish in the 500 freestyle. Her 4:53.35 time in the finals tonight produced the first top-eight All-American award of her career. It's her fifth All-American finish overall.
The Jumbos finished the day with a strong ninth-place effort in the 400 medley relay for Honorable Mention All-American honors. Tufts' 3:44.42 time in the finals was led off by a school-record 55.70 for the 100 backstroke leg by sophomore
Elena Harrison. She broke her own school record of 55.81 in the 100 back. Joining her in the relay were junior
Quinci Wheeler, first-year
Angel Smyrniou and senior
Jillian Cudney.
Wednesday also had a pair of 16th-place individual finishes by the Jumbos for Honorable Mention All-American honors. Sophomore
Sydney Stasz picked up her first individual national honor with a 2:06.91 time in the 200 individual medley. She had been seeded 31st in the event. Cudney's came in the 50 freestyle (23.58). With this and the 400 medley relay, Cudney is now a 14-time All-American with the Jumbos.
Tufts had four qualifiers total in both the 200 IM and 50 freestyle. In addition to Stasz in the 200 IM, Harrison – seeded 46th - placed 26th in the final with her 2:05.56 personal-best in the prelims while seniors
Cierra McCarty (2:12.09) and
Lara Wujciak (2:12.34) also competed. For the 50 free, junior
Isa Chambers (23.52 for 28th place), junior
Jade Foltenyi (23.94) and Smyrniou (24.35) joined Cudney. Foltenyi's mark was a personal best and Smyrniou matched hers.
The Jumbos totaled 33 team points on Wednesday for eighth place.
Tomorrow's NCAA racing will feature Jumbos in the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay events.
