GREENSBORO, NC (March 21, 2025) – Junior
Quinci Wheeler broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries and then placed 10th in the final tonight to lead the Tufts University women's swimming & diving team at the NCAA Division III Championships at Greensboro Aquatics Center.
Wheeler swam 1:02.41 in the 100 breaststroke prelims to lower her previous school record from 1:02.58. In the consolation finals tonight, she timed 1:02.96 to tie for 10th place. The effort is her best-ever individual finish at an NCAA meet.
Tufts also had an Honorable Mention All-American performance in the 800 freestyle relay on Friday. The foursome of junior
Madeleine Dunn, Wheeler, sophomore
Selin Tuncay and senior
Jillian Cudney combined on a time of 7:32.28 for 15th place. It's the fifth straight NCAA meet that the Jumbos have had an All-American finish in the event.
With the 10.5 points scored in those two events today, Tufts is in 12th place at the NCAA meet with a 56.5 total score.
Cudney's anchor role in the 800 free relay gives her 16 career All-American awards. Wheeler's two today give her eight, while Dunn now has seven and Tuncay's was her second.
In the 200 butterfly trials on Friday morning, the Jumbos were led by senior
Lara Wujciak's 2:05.12 for 21st place while sophomore Elena Harris swam 2:07.25 and junior
Jade Foltenyi produced a 2:10.70 time. The Jumbos had two entries in the 100 backstroke, as senior
Gaurika Singh and first-year
Noa Chambers placed 21st and 22nd with 56.15 and 56.19 times, respectively. Chambers' time matched her personal best. Junior
Sydney Stasz swam in the 100 breaststroke and was 25th with a 1:04.09 touch.
The fifth-seeded Tufts 200 medley relay was disqualified due to an early take-off in the morning session.
For Saturday's final day of NCAA competition, Jumbos will compete in the 1650 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 400 freestyle relay.
