Men's Golf Bounces Back for Sixth at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, VT (September 14, 2024) - The Tufts University men's golf team bounced back from their 13th place finish to round one to take sixth place at the Duke Nelson Invitational in Middlebury, Vermont on Sunday.

Senior Holden Kittelberger led the way once again on day two. His front nine was nearly spotless aside from a bogey on hole seven. His back nine got even better as he finished holes 10 and 16 with a birdie. A bogey on the last hole pushed him just a single stroke above par in round two, landing him in 15th individually and a final score of seven strokes over par.

Junior JP Noone finished round two with the same score as Kittelberger once again. He took home a birdie on hole 18, but a pair of bogies on the front nine held him a single stroke above par. Matching his teammates' score, Noone also finished in 15th place individually.

Sophomore Brooks Cahill-Sanidas had a roller coaster of a front nine with birdies on holes two and four but two bogies to cancel them out as well. A few more bogies down the stretch saw him finish in 54th overall, the biggest improvement from round one to round two.

Junior Nick McCabe improved massively in round two as well, rising 14 places to finish 72nd individuals as the final scoring golfer for the Jumbos in round two. He finished holes nine and 16 with birdies, but a rough front nine kept him at four above par on the second day. He finished the competition 17 over.

Brendan Roy's round two was highlighted by birdies on holes one and 10. A few bogies on the front nine and a double bogie down the stretch saw him fall to 41st place individually with 12 strokes over par.

The Jumbos took sixth place overall after all was said and done, finishing just behind conference foes Amherst, Middlebury and Trinity.

The Jumbos will be back out next weekend as they compete in the Williams College Fall Invitational at 9:00 am.
