Jumbos Finish Third at Bowdoin Invitational Behind McCabe Ace

BRUNSWICK, ME (September 28, 2025) - The Tufts University men's golf team concluded competition at the Bowdoin Invitational at the Brunswick Golf Course on Sunday morning, taking third place as a team with a weekend full of highlights to build upon.

The highlight of the entire weekend, however, was an ace on hole 15 by junior Nick McCabe. The first hole-in-one by a Tufts golfer since Brandon Karr's ace in 2017 at Middlebury became just the second by a Jumbo since 2010. McCabe also finished with a birdie on hole 16, helping him balance out five bogies to finish 17th place individually. Leaping seven places between rounds one and two, McCabe finished with a total score of six over par as he continued to improve throughout the fall.

Senior Holden Kittelberger took the best result from the weekend in Maine as he finished sixth overall individually. His second day of competition saw him quickly rip off back-to-back birdies on holes two and three, but they were countered by a double bogey the following hole. Another spell of back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14 helped to keep the senior in the top-10, as he finished round two just a single stroke over par. His combined score was also one stroke over par as he took home the highest finish for the Jumbos.

The biggest leap between rounds one and two was achieved by junior Brendan Roy. He made a 23 place jump from 48th to 25th. It was a day of ups and downs for him as he took six birdies, five bogies and a double bogey to finish the round at one stroke over par, matching the best score for Tufts on the day. His combined score of eight strokes over par helped Tufts finish two strokes behind NESCAC rivals Williams and Amherst.

The final scoring golfer for Tufts was junior JP Noone. Noone's Sunday was highlighted by a birdie on hole 17, but he was held up with a few bogies. Finishing round two at four over par, the junior took home a combined score of nine over par for 29th place individually.

Sophomore Brooks Cahill-Sanidas just missed out on scoring for Tufts, as he finished round two with a score of nine over par. His combined score of eleven over par saw him fall to 41st place individually.

The Jumbos finished just behind Williams and Amherst, and were two strokes ahead of tournament hosts Bowdoin. The bronze finish is the best team result for Tufts this fall, and sets them up well for a weekend in New York at the Hamilton College Fall Invitational next weekend.
