Gyimesi Selected As USBWA National Player of the Week

MEDFORD, MA (January 7, 2026) -- Following a huge pair of wins and two big performances, Tufts University senior forward Scott Gyimesi was named as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III National Player of the Week Tuesday evening.

Gyimesi is the first player for the Jumbos to earn the award since February 21, 2021 when Dylan Thoerner earned the honor. Prior to Thoerner, Tom Palleschi also picked up the honor for Tufts back on January 5, 2016 exactly 10 years before Gyimesi's accolade.

Gyimesi, who picked up New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week laurels on Monday, helped lead No. 21 Tufts to a pair of wins, including knocking off No. 17 WPI on Saturday. The senior forward averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds and was 19-of-29 (65.5%) from the floor on the week.

On Wednesday against Clark, Gyimesi finished with 22 points, including hitting the game-winning shot with 0.1 seconds to play in a 79-77 win. He then posted another double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-52 win over WPI.

Tufts travels to Bowdoin College Friday evening at 7 PM for the NESCAC opener in Brunswick, Maine.
