Field Hockey Coach Tina Mattera to Play at Masters Indoor World Cup Again

MEDFORD, MA (February 6, 2026) – Tufts University field hockey coach Tina Mattera was selected to the U.S. roster again for the upcoming World Masters Hockey (WMH) 2026 Masters Indoor World Cup.

Following practices and selection sessions which took place throughout the last year, the U.S. Masters Executive Committee named Mattera and 12 others to the U.S. Over-45 Team that will compete at the Masters Indoor World Cup (MIWC) in Nottingham, England March 26-31 of this year.

Along with the U.S., teams from  Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Germany, Guyana, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Scotland, Switzerland, and Wales will be represented at the tournament. Women's action will be held in O-35, O-45, O-55, O-60, and O-65 divisions.

Mattera won a bronze medal playing for the Over-45 U.S. Women's Masters Indoor Team at the 2024 MIWC held at the same site. She scored three goals in five games for the American team.

She was on the U.S. Team that was scheduled to compete at the 2022 MIWC in Virginia Beach, Va., but the event was canceled due to lingering concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. She has a long history of international play indoors, starting as a member of the USA Field Hockey National Indoor Team from 2003-10. She won a silver medal with that squad at the Pan Am Games in 2005. She has also been selected to the USA Field Hockey Masters National Team multiple times.

Head coach at Tufts since 2004, Mattera directed the Jumbos to the program's second NCAA Division III Championship in November. She and her assistant coaches were named National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Coaching Staff of the Year for each of the last seasons. She coached the 2012 Tufts team to the NCAA Division III Championship as well. Having surpassed 300 career victories this past season, Mattera is one of the winningest coaches in DIII history with a 305-90 record in 22 seasons (.772 winning percentage).

A graduate of Boston University, Mattera captained the 1999 Terrier team which won the America East Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. She was an All-Conference first team selection that year.
