"This season has been special," head coach
Adam Hoyt said about both the men's and women's teams. "After graduating 20 team members and adding 20 new team members to our roster, we've worked together with everyone on the team this season to build this team's identity and reinforce Tufts Swimming and Diving values. Our upperclassmen have done a great job setting expectations for our team and have worked hard to build a connected and resilient group that supports each other in all moments. We're very proud of the work this team put into the season thus far, and we're excited to have the opportunity to compete at the highest level this week."
The action gets started for the Tufts men on Wednesday with four events. Lyubman leads the Jumbos in the 500 freestyle as the 12th seed with a 4:28.26 time. He'll be joined by Shafi (4:30.79) and Nussbaum (5:00.28). Kaminski ranks 20th in the 50 freestyle on Wednesday with his 20.27 mark, while Sikka (20.42) will also swim the 50 free. Wilkinson begins his NCAA week with the three-meter diving event on Wednesday, while the first relay in the pool for Tufts will be the 400-yard medley foursome. The seed time of 3:19.06 was recorded by Ogawa, Nussbaum, Gerke and Sikka, though the NCAA line-up could change.
Lyubman will lead off the Jumbos again on Thursday in the 200 freestyle, where his 1:37.62 time is the school record and ranks 13th in the event. Shafi is just outside of the top 20 with his 1:38.40 seed time in the event. For the 100 butterfly, Sikka's 48.23 to win the NESCAC title is #26 at the NCAA meet and Gerke (48.38) will also represent the Jumbos. They are both part of the 200 freestyle relay – along with Shang and Kaminski - whose 1:19.62 qualifying time broke the school record and is #7 at NCAA's.
Friday starts with the 200 medley relay, where Tufts' men are the 11th seed with their 1:27.78 mark. Ogawa, Kaminski, Sikka and Gerke produced the qualifying time, though again, relay line-ups are subject to change. Nussbaum in the 100 breaststroke (55.59) and Wilkinson in one-meter diving compete on a relatively light day for Jumbo individual events. Wilkinson was the NESCAC and NCAA Regional champion in one-meter diving this year. The Jumbos are also in the 800 freestyle relay on Friday with the #18 time of 6:36.78.
The final day of the meet on Saturday will feature some of the higher individual Jumbo seeds. It will start with the 100 freestyle, where Sikka is ranked 15th at 44.19 seconds and Lyubman will also compete. Nussbaum with his 1:58.97 school-record time is the 14th seed for the 200 breaststroke. Shafi is seeded 11th for the 1650 freestyle on Saturday with his 15:39.56 mark. As always, the prelims and finals close with the 400 freestyle relay where the Jumbos are entered eighth (2:57.48). Kaminski, Springer, Gerke and Sikka were the foursome.
Sikka has now qualified for the NCAA meet in all four of his seasons at Tufts. Shafi qualified for the third straight season, while Kaminski, Lyubman and Nussbaum are national qualifiers for the second time. Gerke, Ogawa, Shang and Springer will make their first trip to NCAA's.
Tufts has been among the top 10 teams at the last three NCAA Championships, including seventh last year.
