Gyimesi Named NESCAC Player of the Year, Bernstein Second Team With NESCAC Men's Hoops Awards

MEDFORD, MA (March 4, 2026) -- The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) announced its 2026 Men's Basketball all-league squads on Wednesday, and senior forward Scott Gyimesi was tabbed as the conference Player of the Year and First Team selection while senior classmate Joshua Bernstein also was selected to the All-NESCAC Second Team.

The three-time All-NESCAC First Team selection is just the second Jumbo to garner the honor in conference history, as he joins Luke Rogers and his pick back in 2020. Gyimesi leads the Jumbos in scoring (16.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.8 rpg) while shooting 56 percent from the floor and 41.2 percent from 3-point range.

Gyimesi was the only player to average a double-double in NESCAC play this season, and is the all-time leading rebounder at Tufts with 946 total boards in his career. He also is just three points shy of 1,300 for his career, as he would become just the 13th player ever to do that.

The Jumbos finished the regular season as the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and reached the semifinals for the fourth year in a row. Tufts is also making the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season, a feat that's never happened before in program history, while hosting the NCAA First and Second Rounds for the second straight season.

Bernstein had his best season as a Jumbo this year, as he is nearly averaging a double-double with 10.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game this season. He has increased his scoring every season during his time at Tufts, while his 8.8 rebounds this season are the most in his career. He has also led the NESCAC in shooting percentage, making 66.7 percent from the floor, and also has a league-high 47 blocks.

Trinity College's Drew Lazarre was the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year, while Amherst College guard K.J. Neville was the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. The Wesleyan University staff was voted the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers for the second season in a row.

Tufts takes on Penn State Harrisburg Friday at 6 p.m. in the NCAA First Round in Cousens Gymnasium.
