Hampson's 5th in 1500 Highlights Men's Track & Field NCAA Outdoor Championships

LA CROSSE, WI (May 23, 2026) – Senior Quinn Hampson finished fifth in the 1500 meters final today to highlight the Tufts University men's track & field team's appearance at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships this week.

Competing in a 12-man final, Hampson dashed out to the lead at the start of the race and held a slim advantage for two laps. Over the final 400 meters and the kick to the finish line, he remained in the top five and recorded a 3:46.48 time. It's a first-team All-American honor (top eight finishers), the second All-American award of Hampson's career.

Hampson's fifth-place finish is the best for the Jumbos in any NCAA event since Harry Rienecker-Found tied for first in the 2023 outdoor high jump. The fifth in the NCAA 1500 is Tufts' best in the event since current Director of Track & Field and Cross Country and Tufts alumnus Jamie Norton was fifth in 2014.

Tufts senior Josh Wilkie had become the first Jumbo to make the final in the NCAA 400-meter hurdles since 2003 on Thursday. Today, due to an injury sustained in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries yesterday, Wilkie was unable to compete in the 400h final at full capacity. However, he finished the race and earned ninth place and a second-team All-American accolade. The national recognition is the third of his career.

Making his first NCAA appearance, senior Randy Hamilton finished the javelin throw in 17th place today with a 56.92m (186'9") mark. He only had one throw in the preliminary round, as he fell hard and fouled on his second throw and was unable to take his third attempt. He missed a second-team All-American award by one place.

Hampson's fifth-place finish today scored four points for the Jumbos, marking the first time that the team has scored at an NCAA Track & Field Championships since the 2024 outdoor meet. The Jumbos tied for 46th place out of 102 teams at the NCAA meet this week.
