MIDDLEBURY, VT (September 12, 2026) – The Tufts University men's golf kicked off their 2026-27 season at the Duke Nelson Invitational with day one starting on Saturday morning. The Jumbos ended the first day in seventh place out of 20 total teams.
Sophomore
Jason Zawtocki led the Jumbo group with a three over par score of 74 on day one. Zawtocki began the event on hole eight due to the shotgun start and opened with six straight pars. After picking up bogeys on three of the next four holes, Zawtocki regained his focus and put together three straight par or better holes with a birdie on hole number one. Zawtocki currently is tied for tenth individually out of 104 golfers.
Senior
Brendan Roy followed just behind Zawtocki with a four over par score of 75 in the opening round. Roy started off hot with a birdie on hole number nine and then six consecutive pars to start his day one under par through the first seven holes. Roy earned seven more pars through the final 11 holes to end day one tied for 15th individually.
Senior
JP Noone ended the opening 18 holes with a seven over par scorecard of 78. Noone began his day on the back nine and struggled to find his rhythm as he registered six bogeys through the first half of his round. The senior turned it around on the front nine with seven pars to end the day tied for 44th individually.
Senior
Nick McCabe earned an 11 over par stroke total of 82 on the first day with eight pars and a birdie recorded in his round. McCabe currently is tied for 71st individually. Junior
William Ainsworth rounded out the lineup for the Jumbos with a 13 over score of 84 in the opening, as he heads into day two tied for 88th.
The Jumbos will look to climb the leaderboard in round two of the Duke Nelson Invitational tomorrow morning as the squad will tee off with another shotgun start beginning at 9 AM!
