Jesse Faller broke the Tufts 5K record in his first action of the indoor season

BOSTON -- Five time cross country and track All-American Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA) was the lone Jumbo to compete at the Carisella Invitational at Northeastern University on Saturday afternoon, but he certainly represented the team well.

Running in the 5,000 meters, Faller's 14:30.47 time was a new school record and a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships. Faller, who was fourth out of  53 entrants in the race, removed Nate Brigham's five-year old time of 14:33.34 from the record book. He now holds three Tufts records, including the 1,500 meters outdoors (3:51.08) and with the distance medley relay indoors (9:59.33).

Just two weeks ago, Faller finished eighth at the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship Race.

The rest of the Tufts team participated in the annual Alumni Meet at the Gantcher Center on Saturday.
