BOSTON -- Senior quad-captain Billy Hale (Menlo Park,
CA) broke the five-year old Tufts University men's indoor
track record in the 1,000 meters with a 2:28.70 time at the
Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday
afternoon. That was the lead performance among several Jumbos who
ran at the meet.
Hale's time erased Aaron Kaye's 2005 mark of 2:28.93 from the
Jumbo record book. Hale was 17th out of 83 entrants in the race at
BU.
In the 800 meters at BU, freshman Dan Kirschner (Short
Hills, NJ) and senior Jason Hanrahan (Westport,
CT) ran good 1:55.71 and 1:55.87 times, respectively, on
the banked track at BU to finish back-to-back in 38th and 39th
places among 172 competitors. Senior Jesse Faller
(Burlington, MA) was 31st out of 170 in the 3,000 meters
by crossing the finish line with an 8:28.73 time. In the sprints,
senior Marc Soskin (Minnetonka, MN) ran the
55-meter dash in 6.81 seconds and freshman Lomie Cunningham
(Bergen, NJ) ran a 22.97 200 meters.
In the only men's event on Friday at the Valentine Invitational,
the distance medley relay foursome of Hale, senior Scott Brinkman (Alamo, CA), Hanrahan, and Faller recorded a time
of 10:21.10 for 19th place out of 30 entrants. The 4x4 of senior
quad-captain Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA),
sophomore Tobie Reeuwijk (Honolulu, HI),
Cunningham, and sophomore Ben Crastnopal (Doylestown,
PA) finished in 3:23.66 for 26th place out of 45 on
Saturday.
The championship season begins next weekend with the New England
Division III meet at Bates on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 19-20).
