MALDEN -- The second-ranked Norwich University men's hockey team wrapped up its regular season with a 20-1-4 record after earning a 7-1 victory at Tufts in NESCAC/ECAC crossover play on Saturday afternoon at Valley Forum II. Freshman Blake Forkey (Boca Raton, FL) had a four-point game for the Cadets with a goal and three assists.

Norwich finished 16-1-2 atop the ECAC East Division and has won four straight since their only loss of the season against Williams (2-1) on February 6. Tufts closed the regular season at 12-9-3 overall and 8-8-3 in league play. The Jumbos earned the seventh seed for the NESCAC Championship and will play at #2 seed Middlebury College next Saturday (Feb. 27) in the quarterfinals at 4 pm.

Three goals in a span of 1:10 during the first period got the scoring started on Saturday. Norwich freshman Kyle Thomas (Waltham, MA) scored the game's first goal, and his 19th of the season, at 6:43. Jumbo junior Tom Derosa (Charlestown, MA) evened the score at 1-1 34 seconds later at 7:17 with his 14th. Thirty-six seconds after that, the Cadets went ahead for good on the sixth goal of the year by freshman Scott Schroeder (Drake, SK) at 7:53.

The Cadets broke the game open in the second, putting 22 shots on goal and scoring four times. Forkey and Thomas both had a goal and an assist during the period. Thomas' power-play strike with 1:41 remaining in the frame was his 20th goal of the season. Freshman Craig Carbonneau (Malden, MA), playing in his hometown, tallied his first collegiate goal 35 seconds later with 1:06 left in the second, giving Norwich a 6-1 advantage.

The visitors added a short-handed goal, their seventh of the season, by senior assistant captain D.J. Fimiani (Melrose, MA) at 15:40 of the third period to close out the scoring.

Norwich finished with a 50-14 count in shots. On Seniors Day at Valley Forum II, Tufts senior goalie Jay McNamara (Weston, MA) made the second start of his career and finished with 41 saves in 57 minutes.
