Senior Jay McNamara made his second career
start in goal on Seniors Day

MALDEN -- The second-ranked Norwich University men's hockey team
wrapped up its regular season with a 20-1-4 record after earning a
7-1 victory at Tufts in NESCAC/ECAC crossover play on Saturday
afternoon at Valley Forum II. Freshman Blake Forkey (Boca Raton,
FL) had a four-point game for the Cadets with a goal and three
assists.
Norwich finished 16-1-2 atop the ECAC East Division and has won
four straight since their only loss of the season against Williams
(2-1) on February 6. Tufts closed the regular season at 12-9-3
overall and 8-8-3 in league play. The Jumbos earned the seventh
seed for the NESCAC Championship and will play at #2 seed
Middlebury College next Saturday (Feb. 27) in the quarterfinals at
4 pm.
Three goals in a span of 1:10 during the first period got the
scoring started on Saturday. Norwich freshman Kyle Thomas (Waltham,
MA) scored the game's first goal, and his 19th of the season, at
6:43. Jumbo junior Tom Derosa (Charlestown, MA)
evened the score at 1-1 34 seconds later at 7:17 with his 14th.
Thirty-six seconds after that, the Cadets went ahead for good on
the sixth goal of the year by freshman Scott Schroeder (Drake, SK)
at 7:53.
The Cadets broke the game open in the second, putting 22 shots
on goal and scoring four times. Forkey and Thomas both had a goal
and an assist during the period. Thomas' power-play strike with
1:41 remaining in the frame was his 20th goal of the season.
Freshman Craig Carbonneau (Malden, MA), playing in his hometown,
tallied his first collegiate goal 35 seconds later with 1:06 left
in the second, giving Norwich a 6-1 advantage.
The visitors added a short-handed goal, their seventh of the
season, by senior assistant captain D.J. Fimiani (Melrose, MA) at
15:40 of the third period to close out the scoring.
Norwich finished with a 50-14 count in shots. On Seniors Day at
Valley Forum II, Tufts senior goalie Jay McNamara (Weston,
MA) made the second start of his career and finished with
41 saves in 57 minutes. Freshman Alex Dubois (Sherbrooke, QUE)
earned the victory in goal for the Cadets, making 13 saves in 58:35
of action.
In addition to Forkey at 1-3-4 and Thomas at 2-1-3, Norwich also
got two assists each from senior Steve Coon (Berne, NY) and junior
Chad Anderson (Dartmouth, NS). Fimiani finished with a goal and an
assist.
After his hat trick on Friday night against Saint Michael's,
Derosa finished with a four-goal weekend.
