MEDFORD, MA (March 23, 2026) –
Brendan Fennell has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 J. Thom Lawler Award. The Award is sponsored by the Eastern Massachusetts Hockey Officials Association and is presented annually at the New England Hockey Writers Banquet.
A player that is selected for this award may or may not be the star, leading scorer, or top defenseman/goalie, but a student-athlete that every coach appreciates greatly in their program.
A player who leads by example, a hard worker with heart who is willing to make sacrifices for the good of their team and school. Fennell's commitment to team, academic achievement, leadership in the locker room, on campus and in the community embody the spirit of the Lawler Award.
In 25 games this season, Fennell was tied for first on the Jumbos in assists with 18 and finished third in plus/minus with a rating of +9. The first line winger collected 24 points on the season to help the team end the season with a record of 12-12-1 and a NESCAC Quarterfinal appearance.
His playmaking ability in the offensive zone helped Tufts to a top 4 finish in goals for in the competitive NESCAC conference. Individually, the senior finished tied for fifth in the conference in assists with his 18 helpers. Fennell showed his flexibility on the ice as he was leaned on heavily in the faceoff dot with 87 wins in 159 faceoff attempts (54.7%).
