MEDFORD -- In a relatively brief season of action at the
Gantcher Center, the Tufts University men's indoor track &
field team finished its home action for 2009-10 by winning three
events at the Tufts Invitational II on Friday and Saturday. It was
a non-scoring meet.
Senior Jesse Faller's (Burlington, MA) victory
in the mile run was by the narrowest margins. His 4:17.19 time won
a photo finish against Chris Brown from Brandeis, who had a 4:17.20
finish.
The other two Tufts victories came in the relays. The 4x400
group of freshman Lomie Cunningham (Bergen, NJ),
senior quad-captain Jared Engelking (Westborough,
MA), senior Jason Hanrahan (Westport,
CT), and senior Scott Brinkman (Alamo,
CA) posted a time of 3:30.95 to beat Brandeis by
four-tenths of a second.
An all-freshman 4x8 relay foursome ran to a solid five-second
win, with Sam Haney (Essex, CT), Adam Brosh (Agoura Hills, CA), Kyle Marks (Carmel,
IN), and Dan Kirschner (Short Hills, NJ)
combining for an 8:06.67 time.
Another freshman, Matt Rand (Cape Elizabeth,
ME), was the runner-up in the 3,000 meter run with an
8:50.81 time.
In a pentathlon event held at Gantcher on Friday night, Tufts
sophomore Tobias Reeuwij (Honolulu, HI) was third
overall with a score of 3,161 points. He won the 1,000 meters
portion (2:45.90). On Saturday, the Jumbos also got thirds from
freshman Mike Blair (Wellesley, MA) in the high
jump (6'3"/1.91m) and junior Alex Gresham (Milton,
MA) in the weight throw (46'11"/14.31m).
The Jumbos compete at the annual Valentine Invitational at
Boston University next Saturday, the last meet before the
championship season begins.
