FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Tufts University rallied late, but the Methodist University baseball team finished strong to earn a 16-8 win and their 16th victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon at Armstrong-Shelley Field.

Methodist scored early and often. The Monarchs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first after a sacrifice fly from Brian Inghram and a two-run home run from Trey Such. Matt Quick finished up with a RBI single to score Brian Goodwin. Methodist's Shawn Lovette hit a two-run home run in the second and the team tacked on six runs in the third including a three-RBI triple by Inghram to lead 12-0.

The Jumbos got on the board in the fifth with an unearned run, knocked in by a single from junior shortstop David LeResche (St. Louis, MO). The Monarchs went ahead 13-1 in the seventh after doubles from Lovette and Inghram. Tufts responded with seven runs in the top of the eighth to move within five (13-8). They hit four doubles in the inning, with senior 3B Alex Grzymala's (East Setauket, NY) two-bagger driving home two runs. Sophomore RF Chase Rose (Scottsdale, AZ) doubled home a run and later scored.

Methodist added three in the bottom of the eighth inning to finish with the 16-8 win.

Inghram finished 4 for 5 at the plate with seven RBI for Methodist. Lovette and Quick went 3 for 4 on the day as the Monarchs finished with 19 hits. Sean Willingham earned the win on the mound pitching five innings with just one hit and six strikeouts. Hunter Ennis and Tre' Britt pitched an inning apiece while John Markley and Rusty White finished in relief.

LeResche, Grzymala, and Rose each had two hits to lead the Jumbos' 10-hit attack.

Tufts plays its sixth game in five days on Thursday at North Carolina Wesleyan. First pitch is at 3 pm. The Monarchs will travel to NC Wesleyan this weekend for a two-game USA South series.
