SOMERVILLE -- The Tufts University men's outdoor track &
field team opened a busy 2010 home season at Ding Dussault Track on
Saturday with the annual Snowflake Classic. The non-scoring meet
included several winning performances by the Jumbos.
Freshman thrower Curtis Yancy (St. Louis, MO)
was first in two events. His 43'2 1/2" (13.17m) heave in the shot
put was the best in an all-Tufts field. He also out-hurled the
competition in the discus throw with a 136'3" (41.52m) effort.
Junior Alex Gresham (Milton, MA) gave Tufts wins
in three of the four throwing events, launching the hammer 149'7"
(45.59m).
Senior Trevor Donadt (Northborough, MA) topped
two short fields in the hurdles, winning the 110 hurdles in 15.58
seconds and the 400 hurdles in 56.52 seconds. Senior Isaiah
Paramore (Charlotte, NC) cleared 6'1 1/4" (1.86m) to win
the high jump. He was also third in the long jump (21'2
1/2"/6.46m). Senior quad-captain Jared Engelking
(Westborough, MA) and freshman teammate Brad Nakanishi (Scarborough, ME) tied for first in the pole
vault, getting over the bar at 13'5 1/4" (4.10m). Junior
Chris Brunnquell (Harrington Park, NJ) was over 30
seconds out in front of the rest of the field in the 10,000 meter
run, winning in a 32:33.20 time.
Another runner-up finish was earned by senior quad-captain
Billy Hale (Menlo Park, CA) in the 1,500 meters
(4:01.84). Freshman Vinnie Lee (Walpole, MA) took
second in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.38
seconds.
Tufts will host the men's and women's NESCAC and New England
Division III Championships at Dussault Track later this season.
The Jumbos are at UMass Lowell's George Davis Invitational next
Saturday.
