HANOVER, NH - Freshman Graham Beutler (Weston, MA) finished third in the 400 meters to lead the Tufts University men's track & field team's performance at the Dartmouth College Relays on Sunday. Coach Ethan Barron's Jumbos finished seventh out of 29 teams by scoring 12 points.
Beutler added six points to the Tufts total with his third in the 400. His time of 51.69 seconds was 1.17 out of first place. The meet also featured an excellent individual performance by sophomore pole vaulter Brad Nakanishi (Scarborough, ME), who scored fourth by clearing 14'6" (4.42m).
Tufts received its remaining two points from the 4x4 relay, anchored by Beutler. The foursome of Clint Porte, junior Ben Crastnopol (Doylestown, PA), sophomore Lawrence Xia (Acton, MA) and Beutler put down a 3:35.25 time for seventh place.
With most of the team home on semester break, the Jumbos brought a reduced squad to Dartmouth. Sophomore thrower Curtis Yancy (St. Louis, MO) was just outside of the top 10 with a 46'4 3/4" (14.14m) launch in the weight throw for 11th place.
The Jumbos host their first home invitational of the season on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.
