YANCY WINS WEIGHT THROW WITH NEW ENGLAND QUALIFYING MARK AT TUFTS INVITATIONAL

Sophomore Curtis Yancy's weight throw won for Tufts

MEDFORD - Sophomore Curtis Yancy (St. Louis, MO) won the weight throw with a distance of 52'3 1/4" (15.93m) in the final home invitational of the men's indoor track & field season on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.

A week ago in the same fieldhouse, Yancy had a best performance of 47'0 3/4" (14.34m). On Saturday, he was over five feet better. His mark surpasses the qualifier for the upcoming All-New England Championships at BU on February 25-26. Yancy was also fourth in the shot put on Saturday with 42'7" (12.98m) distance.

Tufts had several runners competing at Boston University also on Saturday. Back home, freshman Jake McCauley (Darien, CT) picked up his first collegiate victory with a 4:38.83 finish in the mile. The race ended dramatically, with McCauley winning by 0.09 over Colby's Matthieu Nadeau (4:38.92).

In the pole vault, freshman Trevor Rothaus (Pacentia, CA) was the runner-up at 13'5 1/4" (4.10m). The meet was not scored.

Next week is the top team meet of the season as the Jumbos compete at the New England Div. III Championships hosted by Springfield.
