MEDFORD - Tufts University's Gantcher Center hosted events on Friday night and Saturday this weekend, with a pentathlon and the second invitational of the season taking place.
On Friday night, sophomore Michael Blair (Wellesley, MA) placed third in the pentathlon scoring 3,057 points. He scored 758 in the high jump - his specialty - clearing the bar at 6'4 3/4" (1.95m). Freshman teammate Andrew Osborne (Andover, MA) placed fourth in the pentathlon with 2,971 points.
On Saturday, a reduced Jumbo line-up took part in the annual Tufts Stampede, a non-scoring meet. Four members of the team had third-place finishes. Junior Connor Rose (Irvine, CA) ran 2:33.46 in the 1,000 meters. Freshman Benji Hansen (Madison, WI) crossed the finish line third in the 3K with a 8:57.92 time. Senior co-captain Sam Read (Barkhamsted, CT) pole vaulted 14'5 1/4" (4.40m) to tie for third. Sophomore Gbola Ajayi (Lagos, Nigeria) went 21'1 1/4" (6.43m) in the long jump.
Tufts will open Gantcher's doors for the third invitational of the indoor season next Saturday (Feb. 12). On Friday, Coach Ethan Barron's team competes at BU's annual Valentine Invite.
