DISTANCE MEDLEY RELAY RUNS NCAA QUALIFYING TIME, SCHOOL RECORD AT IC4A'S

Sophomore Sam Haney anchored the Jumbo DMR

BOSTON/NEW YORK, NY - The Tufts University men's indoor track & field team's distance medley relay recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time to highlight Saturday's action, which also included Tufts athletes competing at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) at the Armory in New York City.

Running on BU's banked track, the Tufts DMR foursome of freshman Jamie Norton (Groton, MA), freshman Graham Beutler (Weston, CT), sophomore Jeff Marvel (Naples, FL) and sophomore Sam Haney (Essex, CT) laid down a 9:58.46 time to finish third out of 25 teams. The Jumbos were behind only the University of Delaware and the University of Connecticut. The finish is a Tufts record, breaking a two-year old (2009) mark of 9:59.33.

Due to the banked track, three seconds were added to the DMR time to adjust it to a flat-track qualifying mark of 10:01.46, which is currently 15th on the NCAA performance list.

Tufts also sent a limited squad to New York City for the ECAC's. Sophomore Mike Blair (Wellesley, MA) placed eighth in the pentathlon with 3,151 points. Freshman Liam Cassidy (Brunswick, ME) also recorded an eighth place finish in the 3,000 meters, running an 8:44.25 time.
