CAMBRIDGE - Sophomore Brad Nakanishi (Scarborough, ME) of the Tufts men's outdoor track & field team had one of the best pole vault performances of the season nationally on Saturday when he won the event at the MIT Invitational. A full Jumbo squad competed at the non-scoring, massive meet.
With the bar at 15'7 3/4" (4.77m), Nakanishi cleared it and vaulted himself into a possibe berth at the NCAA Championship Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University May 26-28. He is currently ranked 13th on the NCAA performance list for the event. The NCAA provisional mark is 15'7" (4.75m).
As usual, teammate Sam Read (Barkhamsted, CT) was with Nakanishi at the top of the pole vault rankings at the end of the day. His 14'7 1/4" (4.45m) was second at the meet.
NCAA Indoor qualifier Connor Rose (Irvine, CA) was in the 800 meters and finished with a 1:58.49 time that was second-fastest at the meet, 0.01 behind MIT's Patrick Marx at 1:58.48.
Sophomore Kyle Marks (Indianapolis, IN) ran 4:06.19 in the 1,500 meters, while classmate Vinnie Lee (Walpole, MA) put down a time of 11.3 seconds in the 100 meters and 22.98 in the 200 meters.
The team enters a busy week, with outings at the Holy Cross Decathlon on Thursday, Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday and then a home meet at Dussault Track on Saturday.
