PRINCETON, NJ - Seven members of the Tufts men's outdoor track & field team took the trip to New Jersey to compete in Princeton University's Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday. Sophomore Matt Rand (Cape Elizabeth, ME) had the top performance, running a 14:46.02 in the 5,000 meters.
Rand's time was just 1.02 off the 14:45 time needed to qualify for the 5K in the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He was one of three Jumbos competing in the event at the meet. Nick Welch (Seattle, WA) ran 14:55.10 and sophomore Kyle Marks (Indianapolis, IN) came across the finish line in a 15:08.38 time.
Sophomore Jeff Marvel (Naples, FL) and junior Connor Rose (Irvine, CA) were entered in the 800 meters. They finished back-to-back in section 7 of the 800, with Marvel at 1:55.43 and Rose at 1:55.52. They were three seconds off the 1:52.70 provo mark.
Freshman Ben Wallis (Dover, NH) finished the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:33.26, while sophomore Sam Haney (Essex, CT) finished the 1,500 meters in a 4:00.02 time.
