FIFTH PLACE BY WALLIS IN STEEPLECHASE LEADS MEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT NEICAAA MEET

Freshman Ben Wallis ran fifth in the steeplechase

NEW HAVEN, CT - Freshman Ben Wallis (Dover, NH) of the Tufts men's outdoor track & field team ran an NCAA provisional time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to place fifth at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships on Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University.

Tufts scored six points overall at the meet, which includes Division I, II and III teams in New England. The Jumbos tied for 26th place.

Wallis finished the steeplechase in 9:23.89, which just went under the NCAA provisional mark of 9:24 flat. He'll need to improve that time to get into the national meet, but it was the third event in which Tufts has hit national marks this season.

The Jumbos earned a point each in the pole vault and in the 10,000 meters. Sophomore Brad Nakanishi (Scarborough, ME) cleared 14'9" (4.5m) to finish eighth. Sophomore Tyler Andrews (Concord, MA) ran the 10K in 31:39.45 for eighth place as well.

Sophomore jumper Gbola Ajayi (Lagos, Nigeria) was 10th out of 23 in the long jump at 22'4 1/4" (6.81m).

The ECAC Championships at Moravian are next week (May 19-20).
